Chapter 10: OPTIMIZING FOR INTERMEDIATES

What I learned in this chapter is one of biggest problems of digital product development is how to address the needs of users that are beginners and experts. The developers usually create interactions for experts, while others try to create an experience on the user face for both beginners and experts. However, most users are intermediates, not experts or beginners and the beginners like to not remain in that state, learn and grow into as lease intermediates and that’s what the developers should focus on.

When developers are organizing the displays there should be three attributes to keep in mind which is frequency of use, degree of dislocation, and degree of risk exposure. The one that I really had to reread and understand was the Frequency which means “how often the controls, functions, objects, or displays are used in typical daily patterns of use. “In details, the most used items should be in instant reach and the less frequently used ones should be two to three clicks. The experts want shortcuts, while the perpetual intermediates need fast access to all of the tools that is typically used!
