Synopsis
For this project I had to design a package, company brand, and company mark for one of the following product categories: Footwear,Heavy machinery,Farm animal, or Transportation. The details is based off of this description…
“ The year is 2039 and shopping for goods and commodities has never been easier. Nearly everything can be shelved and stacked. What’s life-size or larger is sold at near pocket-size and livestock are placed in suspended animation. This is a world in which conventional notions of scale and proportion are negotiable, animal ethics included. In this age, miniaturized products must be restored to “operational capacity” (i.e., watered or exposed to the elements) prior to use.
While miniaturization is radical, 2039 is a cold, gray, post-post-pandemic world. People are deadpan and insufferably practical.
Approached by an unusual (by 2039 standards) client who aspires to stand out, you’ve decided to explore humor, surprise, and playfulness as design languages. “Wittines”, you think to yourself, “will change everything.”
Process & Research:
I had three ideas, the first was sneakers that could make you fly, a disk that can once stepped on can teleport you anywhere and lastly flying pigs that can help the consumer out in many ways. I went with the flying pigs because it was something imaginative, witty, fun, and cute. I wanted to do some research on the 4 pigs that come in this package and represent each pig with a color that goes with the personality that they mostly entail. The pigs supply, defense, friendship, social anxiety, and leadership. What colors go with these pigs? Yellow, red, blue, and pink. I had to research colors and what each other color represented. I needed a package design that was simple and fun, this led me to look up packages that was like the package template that I choose to use, which was tall and horizontal. I realized that I could only use 3 PMS colors so I changed the colors of wings to white instead of the 4 colors I previously chose and had this purple, cool toned color as the background, because that represented a future color after research!
I personally went to stores to look at kid toy packages and some that were similar to kid toy packages like Furby’s etc. The stores I went to was Walmart, Target, and Shoprite. I tried to find toys like Furby since it was discontinued from what I researched. I also researched pigs and pig logos to help create my own.
I had to look up a video that showed me how to create a gold-colored package design, because I want my product to show case elegance but be uniquely priced cheap. However, once I printed and saw that the gradient doesn’t show as well so I went with a purple cool color, because I found color palettes on futuristic color palettes.
I researched what makes a logo futuristic?
“Futuristic logos tend to be quite simple, skipping detail in favor of an impactful look that establishes a mood of hope, progress, innovation, and stepping out into the unknown. Of course, it also helps if they represent a product or service, even subtly.”
